I was a member of an audience, which had the opportunity to see and to listen to a presentation of G. Jerry Toole. This took place on 11 November 2004, which is celebrated in many countries, but unfortunately not in ours, as Veterans Day.
It was a unique opportunity to be present for the presentation that was given in our school to students. A once in a lifetime true account of what American veterans have done to promote freedom and their lives that they had given.
For being a Czech teacher, I learned a lot about American history and about the involvement of so many young boys who went off to war, and seen the data of how many lives were given in WWII and other wars. The presentation started from the early days of America, when America became independent from Britain. I also learned a lot of information that could not have been possible but from a person who was a veteran himself.
The presentation of G. Jerry Toole, was a magnificent piece of teaching art, students and myself had the opportunity to learn not only facts about American military history, but we also saw a veteran, who was personally involved in the Vietnam war.
He spoke about the historical development of America national symbols like the American flag, what it meant and what the colors represented. The story of the Buddy Poppy. Which was dedicated to the memory of the men who fought and died in France during WWI. Which has became the true symbol of all those who have died, and has become recognized as the memorial flower in many countries throughout the free world. Being distributed by veteran’s organizations in America, in Europe, and in most of the countries of the British Commonwealth.
And now here recently being worn by members of our own parliament here in the Czech republic. Jerry presented the subject with such profound knowledge and behind his words there were hidden personal experiences from his own military service in Vietnam. He showed much affection about his lost of friends , he did not mean only Vietnam ,but mainly the destinies of many young American boys who sacrificed themselves for our freedom in many wars.
In my opinion Jerry’s presentation was excellent in using and presenting of military items in his collection of WWII items, battle dress, helmet and many other things that were related to the life of a soldier. He caught the student’s attention from the beginning. It caused us all to stop and think of how much we owe to so many unknown people, who gave of themselves for our freedom.
I'm very pleased to recommend it to other people to see his presentation.
